Another Good Day at the Show

Sheri took another craft fair exhibition for the team! As I worked my day job at the Salon & Spa, Sheri, once again, held down the fort for the Glass Girlz, at the Holiday Craft Show, in Bolingbrook. She's great at getting the word out about the Glass Girlz. She met some nice people and passed out cards with our website so everyone can holiday shop from the comfort of their own home!

Pictured above is three generations running the Glass Girlz booth for the day. On the left is Sheri's mom, Ruth Ann, who came up from St. Louis for a visit and hung out, then Sheri on the right, and in the middle, Sheri's youngest daughter, who is becoming quite the Glass Girl herself!

Ruth Ann owns operates a gift shop in St. Louis called Treasures of Ours... Artful things must run in the blood.

Note to Self

Note to self... It is easier, when getting ready for a show, to assemble as you go.

I enjoy all parts of making jewelry, selecting glass, cutting, firing and even assembling the pendants on cards. I love to see the completed project. However, I don't love it when any one job piles up.

While I was happily going along in my studio, creating some fun new pendants like Skally, my skull girl wearing a lime green bow, and a collection of Hip Chic pendants, I didn't realize that my box of pendants to assemble on cards was filling up. All of a sudden, there I was, a worker bee assembling 200 pendants on cards. UGH! Not fun if you sit there and do it all at once. But now that it's over... Ahhh look at all the beautiful pendants. It's the Ahhh feeling why I love to assemble cards.

Sheri and I have a big weekend in store... the first double header! Sheri will work both Saturday & Sunday, and I will just be out for Sunday... so really, it's Sheri's first double header!! She's the best.

Have a groovy one,
Nicky

Meet Nicky and Sheri Pocket

Well... After all our excitement with our very first Art Fair we were ready to go for the Fall Festival at Blackberry Farms, on September 14th, in Aurora. Much to our dismay, it was a total rain out... not just a drizzle, but a RAIN OUT!

We do Have a new date ... October 11 & 12th and we hope to see you out there.

Sheri and I had a little extra time on our hands, with our unexpected rain delay, and this is what we came up with... Meet Nicky Pocket & Sheri Pocket of the Polly Pocket People. We are cute plastic girlz driving around in a super hip plastic sportscar, on our way to our next market. ...Darling Husband says we have too much time on our hands!

But really, both Sheri and I have been busy in our studios creating some great new pieces, and on a not-so-serious note, I came up with these kooky skulls, after all, Halloween is just around the corner!

Then, I started in on a new series of patterns spliced together to make one way cool pendant. There are a select few available for purchase in my store www.uncommonglass.etsy.com . New items are added weekly, so check back often... you never know what you'll find??

After a long day, I, Nicky Pocket, am signing off...
Have an artful good night!!

We are Art Fair Vendors!

Well, we survived our first day as Art Fair Vendors at the Yorkville Jr. Women's Arts and Crafts Fair... and it was so fun!! I think we may have to quit our day jobs and run the circuit. OK, maybe we're not quite ready for that, but we both really enjoyed meeting new people and talking "art" with them.

It was a lot of work getting our act together, setting up the booth just so, organizing our goods and, when it was over, packing everything up, but it was well worth it. Our booth had a steady stream of traffic admiring our hand made baubles. That in itself was fantastic, but the real excitement was that we had great sales!! Holy cow, we may actually be able to make a living at this?

With our newly found determination, Sheri is working hard on locating a more shows to exhibit at. A few dates bring us into the holiday months... hmmm, maybe a great Christmas present for someone special? We'll keep you "posted" on our Show schedule...

Be creative,

Nicky

Meet the Glass Girlz!

Welcome to the new Glass Girlz blog, a telling tale of crazy and creative things that happen in the lives of two artsy Mom's who have teamed up in the attempt to feed their family through the sales of their Art!!

Hi there... Me (Nicky Fairless) and my friend Sheri McDermott are two creative souls who met by accident at a lampworking class in a town far far away! When we found out we were both from Yorkville, Illinois, we instantly became friends by fire... and a year later www.GlassGirlz.com was born.

It is the eve of our very first exhibition in the Yorkville Jr. Women's Arts and Crafts Fair located in the Yorkville Town Square. OMG is it a lot of work getting ready...preparing the marketing material, stamping boxes and bags, creating booth displays and on and on. Whew!! After two really late nights, I do have to say that we are really excited and even thought there was a lot of little things to accomplish in order to make the big thing big... we are still having fun.

We have some great new creative pieces available... our glass work is always evolving... got to keep it fresh!!

To the left is Sheri's music note intricately carved out and then fired not just once, but twice!

To the right is my wedge of aqua blues and sea greens, which offers expert drilling through 3 layers of glass ... with out breaking it... and let me tell you, when they do break, it is so sad!!

These are just a few eye candies to entice you to make your way out to Yorkville and visit.

Next time... the fun stories of Market Day in Town Square!!

Well Wishes,
Nicky
